Using Wi-Fi on the Windows laptops, we timed how long it took to connect to websites, measured latency times (how long it took a server to respond), and recorded upload and download speeds with Ookla's Speedtest meter, both with and without the VPN activated. We also timed how long it took to download a large video file, both with and without VPN activation.

With endpoints in 18 countries, Kaspersky Secure Connection can be set up so that it connects automatically, connects to an endpoint in a certain country by default, or seeks to establish a connection whenever you connect to an insecure Wi-Fi hotspot. While it hides your IP address, a VPN is not a true anonymization service. For that, you'll want to access the Tor network, which will almost certainly slow down your connection. I've been using PIA for awhile. The only problem I have had with it is on torrents being uploaded. I like to keep up on what's popular in the UK and I've been pinged by my ISP a couple times for having (unknown to me) files in the uploading torrent that are flagged by a takedown filter. Coming down has had no issues. I suspect that the problem lies with the seed torrent going out to other people, but I don't understand how the file is traced back to me if it is going through the VPN.

IVPN doesn’t have as many server locations as larger services like ExpressVPN do. When we initially recommended the service, IVPN was limited to 13 countries, compared with ExpressVPN’s 94.
