How this calculator works

Amazon charges two main fees on every FBA sale: a referral fee (a percentage of the sale price that varies by category) and a fulfillment fee (a flat rate based on packaged size and weight). The calculator first classifies your product into a size tier using your package dimensions and weight to determine whether the item is Small Standard or Large Standard. Each tier has a different fulfillment fee from the 2026 Q2 fee schedule. It then applies the referral fee for your product category: Electronics 8%, Clothing 17%, most others 15%. The $0.30 minimum referral fee applies to all categories. Net profit per unit = sale price minus COGS minus FBA fulfillment fee minus referral fee. Net margin = (net profit / sale price) x 100. The monthly profit projection multiplies per-unit profit by your expected sales volume, with 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month views.

Bluetooth earbuds. Category: Electronics. Sale price $29.99. Product cost $8.00. Package weight 12 oz. Dimensions inside standard thresholds. Size tier: Small Standard. FBA fee: $3.06. Referral fee: $29.99 x 0.08 = $2.40. Net profit: $29.99 - $8.00 - $3.06 - $2.40 = $16.53. Net margin: 55.1%. Monthly profit at 100 units: $1,653. Low-margin scenario: fashion t-shirt at $10.00, Clothing category (17% referral), product cost $4.00. Net profit: $10.00 - $4.00 - $3.06 - $1.70 = $1.24. Margin 12.4%, where a single return or PPC bid increase wipes out profit.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does this calculator include monthly storage fees?

Not in this version. FBA monthly storage fees range from $0.56 to $2.40 per cubic foot depending on the time of year, with higher rates in October through December. Long-term storage fees apply after 181 days. Factor these in separately for products with slow inventory turnover.

  • What is the referral fee?

A percentage commission Amazon charges on every sale. The rate depends on your product category, ranging from 8% for Electronics to 17% for Clothing. Amazon also enforces a minimum referral fee of $0.30 per item on most categories, so even low-priced items pay at least that amount.

  • Why is my margin negative?

Your product cost plus Amazon fees exceeds your sale price. You have four options: raise the sale price, find a lower-cost supplier, switch to a category with a lower referral rate, or reduce packaging size to qualify for a cheaper fulfillment tier.

  • What is the FBA size tier?

Amazon classifies every product by its packaged dimensions and weight. Standard size products (roughly under 18 x 14 x 8 inches and under 20 lb) get lower fulfillment fees. Oversize products pay significantly more. Optimizing packaging to fit a smaller tier can save $1 to $3 per unit.

  • Should I include PPC ad spend in this calculation?

This calculator focuses on per-unit profitability from Amazon fees and COGS. PPC spend is a separate acquisition cost that varies by campaign. Use the Break-Even ROAS Calculator to evaluate your ad economics separately, then combine both results for a complete picture. Test both approaches with real data from your business before committing to a single strategy.

  • How accurate are the fee rates?

The rates in this tool are sourced directly from Amazon Seller Central's published 2026 Q2 fee schedule. Amazon occasionally adjusts fees mid-quarter for specific categories. If your Seller Central dashboard shows different rates, use those numbers in your own calculations.
