How this tool works
Enter each assignment category from your syllabus (homework, quizzes, midterm, final) with its weight, your current score, and the max possible score. The calculator finds the percentage you earned in each category, multiplies by its weight, and sums them to get your overall grade on completed work. It then tells you exactly what score you need on remaining categories to reach your target grade.
Worked example
Suppose your syllabus has Homework (30%), Quizzes (20%), and Midterm (50%). You scored 85/100 on Homework and 90/100 on Quizzes. The Midterm has not been taken yet. Earned percentages: Homework 85%, Quizzes 90%. Weighted contributions: 85 x 0.30 = 25.5, 90 x 0.20 = 18.0. Current grade on completed 50% of work: (25.5 + 18.0) / 0.50 = 87.0%. To hit a 90% target, you need (90 - 43.5) / 0.50 = 93.0% on the Midterm.

Frequently asked questions
How do weighted grades work?
Each assignment category (homework, tests, finals) is assigned a percentage weight that determines how much it counts toward your overall grade. A 50-point homework assignment in a 30%-weight category contributes less than a 50-point midterm in a 40%-weight category.
What if my category weights do not add up to 100%?
If your syllabus weights total less than 100%, the remaining weight is ungraded. This calculator treats it as a future category you have not yet entered. Add the missing category to get an accurate picture.
Can I still get an A if I failed my midterm?
Enter your scores and target grade -- the calculator shows the minimum score needed on remaining work. If the required score exceeds 100%, the target is mathematically out of reach.
