Lizard Age Calculator
Convert your pet lizard's age to human equivalent years and find out their life stage with care recommendations.

Bearded Dragon
Care note
Bearded dragons require UVB lighting, a basking spot of 100-110°F, and a varied diet of insects and leafy greens. Regular vet checkups detect metabolic bone disease early.
This calculator uses a proportional lifespan model to estimate a lizard's age in human-equivalent years. The formula is: human_age = (lizard_age / species_avg_lifespan) x 80. Each species has a different average captive lifespan, from 6.5 years for veiled chameleons to 17.5 years for leopard geckos and crested geckos. Life stages are scaled proportionally based on the species' lifespan: Hatchling, Juvenile, Sub-adult, Young Adult, Adult, and Senior.
How this tool works
This calculator uses a proportional lifespan model to estimate a lizard's age in human-equivalent years. The formula is: human_age = (lizard_age / species_avg_lifespan) x 80. Worked example
A 5-year-old Bearded Dragon with an average lifespan of 12.5 years: human equivalent = (5/12.5) x 80 = 32 human years, placing it in the Young Adult life stage. Bearded dragons at this age are active and healthy, roughly analogous to a young adult human. Senior signs typically appear after age 7.
Frequently asked questions
How do you convert lizard years to human years?
Reptile aging is best understood proportionally. Divide your lizard's age by its species' average lifespan, then multiply by 80. A 5-year-old bearded dragon (avg lifespan ~12 years) is roughly equivalent to a 33-year-old human.
When is a bearded dragon considered a senior?
Bearded dragons typically show senior signs after age 7: reduced appetite, joint stiffness, duller coloration, and less activity. Annual veterinary checkups are recommended for metabolic bone disease and organ function.
Do lizards have different lifespans by species?
Significantly. Chameleons live just 5-8 years while leopard geckos regularly reach 15-20 years. Large monitors can live 10-20 years. Species selection is a long-term commitment that should be researched carefully before purchase.
